Rome Imperial Fora reopens after 20 years

The Imperial Fora archaeological area in Rome has been reopened after 20 years: now the area is accessible by locals and tourists, who can visit both the Forum of Trajan and the Forum of Caesar, with a ticket costing only 4 euros. The path designed for the visitors are 100% step-free and are therefore accessible also to people with walking disabilities.

This section of the imperial fora is one of the most important archaeological areas in the world and until a few days ago it was just opened during special night events. This reopening closely follows the inauguration of the reopening of the excavation area of the Circus Maximus last week. “Another important piece of the artistic and historic heritage of Rome has been given back to the city and the world”, these are the words of Rome’s mayor Virginia Raggi, who also wanted to stress the importance of the lack of barriers for the disabled. “Everyone will be able to use the walkway, which was originally designed for the shows held last year, the one that departs from the Trajan Column to Corrado Ricci Square”.

If you want to book a visit the only way is to phone 0039-060608: tickets will cost 4 euros (3 euros for reductions) and you will be able to access the area in groups of maximum 30 people: you will see a part of the Trajan Forum, go underground in the cellars of the Alexandrin Quarter, cross the Forum of Caesar and finish the walk near the Forum of Nerva. The tour will leave you on Via dei Fori Imperiali.
