Celebrate New Year’s eve with Prosecco, the italian sparkling wine

Prosecco is a sparkling white wine, generally dry or extra dry. This wine is produced in northern Italy in the Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto regions. Especially in the areas of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, the hills in the north of Treviso. This varied wine is also famous for being the main ingredient for the local cocktail called “Bellini”.

In almost all Italian houses, you cannot miss prosecco for a celebration.

History of Prosecco

In Trieste at the beginning of the 1500s, the local Ribolla wine was celebrated as the heir to the old Pucino wine, known to Pliny the Elder in his work Natural History and appreciated by the wife of Emperor Augustus, Livia. At that time, the need to distinguish the Ribolla from Triste from other wines with the same name was created, and so it was decided to differentiate them by name. Following the place of production, it was called “Castellum nobile vinum Pucinum” in reference to a castle located very close in Prosecco (north of Trieste).

Over the years, prosecco production was completely abandoned in the Trieste area. The success came only after the Second World War and with the success came attempts at imitation by other countries. It became necessary to reconnect the Venetian production with the name of the original Prosecco locality and hence the name of the famous wine was born.

The famous Prosecco hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene have been a UNESCO heritage site since 2019. This is where the Glera grapes are produced to make the most internationally famous wine.

Prosecco village

The Prosecco village is famous for its namesake white wine. This town is located in the province of Trieste and has only 1,400 inhabitants.

The name Prosecco meanscut forest” in the Slavic language, which characterizes this area cleared for growing vines.

On the night of San Silvestro, enjoy a good prosecco from Conegliano-Valdobbiane and welcome the new year in the company of your loved ones.

Happy New Year!
