The first stop of this trip will take you to the ancient Roman town of Herculaneum, which, just like Pompeii, was destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD. This site is less famous than the one in Pompeii but the very old buildings are much better preserved and, since there are less visitors, a tour here can be actually even more enjoyable.
Your driver will stop just at the entrance of the archeological site, where you will meet our local English-speaking private guide. They will guide you for 2 hours inside the 40,000 sq mt of Herculaneum’s archaeological site. During the eruption of 79 AD, Herculaneum was covered in a thick sea of pyroclastic materials that fossilized the city. Even delicate items, such as furniture and clothing, were discovered very well preserved, when excavations started in the 18th century.
Thanks to our licensed guides’ explanation you will learn all about the buildings and the ruins that are still standing today. You will also visit houses, baths and even restaurants from the Roman times, learning so much about the Roman civilization, as well as its history and daily life.
