The first town we come across when we reach the cinque terre is Monterosso, a famous resort full of tourist spots and a beautiful beach. The town center is old and you can walk through the narrow streets to visit the Gothic church of San Giovanni Battista.

The second town is Vernazza, this town rises on a small promontory that is inserted into the sea. The medieval city has a beautiful square and two imposing watchtowers. It is said that the name derives from the Latin “verna” which means “indigenous” but also from the famous wine called Vernaccia.

The third village is Corniglia. Corniglia is in the center with respect to the other towns of the cinque terre. This is the only town that does not have direct views of the sea because it is located at a height of 5 meters. That is why to get there you have to climb stairs called Lardarina.

The next town is Manarola, very famous for the production of wine and oil; it is the smallest town after Corniglia.
