The Sculptures in Opera del Duomo Museum in Florence

  • The Deposition by Michelangelo is a marble sculpture made in the Renaissance, representing the figure of Jesus Christ right after his death by crucifixion, what seems to be Nicodemus, Mary Magdalene, and the Virgin Mary.

This sculpture was apparently supposed to decorate the artist’s tomb but was later on sold by Michelangelo himself before he actually finished it because he couldn’t complete it due to the quality of the marble and ended up damaging some parts of the sculpture.

  • Penitent Magdalene made by Donatello, a stunning statue that we can find in the Opera del Duomo Museum.

It’s a wooden sculpture that manages to capture the attention of visitors like no other sculpture. In fact, the unique material that the statue is made from is able to evoke very strong emotions like pain, devotion, hope, and many more, making it impossible for this figure not to be surrounded by tourists all the time.

  • The extraordinary marble statues depicting Sibille, Prophets and Philosophers of antiquity, carved by Pisano during his office as master builder. They vibrate with the artist’s new way of sculpting and are animated by a dynamism and a Gothic realism pervaded by spiritual impetus.
