It’s Christmas time, guys! And like every year, there are curiosities from the world that strike us. Today we want to talk about the largest Christmas tree in the world that was lit in Gubbio which for its 41st edition had Avis, the Association of Italian Blood Volunteers, as testimonial, with the national president, Gianpietro Briola. “We considered it important to publicly acknowledge the great effort made by Avis in the last two years to tackle the virus”, explained Giacomo Fumanti, president of the “Alberaioli” committee.

Gubbio is one of the oldest cities in Umbria, wonderfully preserved over the centuries and full of monuments that testify to its glorious past. Architecturally it represents the masterpiece of medieval civilization and thirteenth-fourteenth century society, divided into the guilds of arts and crafts. Testimonies of its ancient origins are the Eugubine Tables and the Roman theater located just outside the walls. It dominates from above the monumental basilica of Sant’Ubaldo, guardian of the remains of the patron saint.

The Tree we talk about, which in 1991 entered the Guinness Book of Records, is over 650 meters high and consists of more than 250 bright green points that outline its shape on Mount Ingino. At the top there is a star with a surface of about 1,000 square meters drawn by over 200 bright points. It will remain lit from sunset to late at night throughout the Christmas period, until the weekend following January 6th.
